Replacing an employee costs money. What if it was a matter of just realigning their job position or helping them develop additional skills?
Last year I was hired by a man who had a employee who was reaching the end of her probation period. He had invested three months of training in this person and he wasn’t sure she even liked the industry. He was wondering if he should let her go.
He hired me and I met with the woman. There was no question in my mind that the woman liked the industry. What was the problem? Through my process, I discovered the real issue was that the woman wasn’t learning anything new. She needed to be given higher responsibilities, not less. She was also ready to enhance her position by receiving additional skills that would serve both her and her employer.
She discussed what she discovered with her employer (My part was confidential and thus enabled the employee to open up to me). I am proud to say she happily employed there to this day.
As I continue working with people I am discovering often it is minor adjustments that can be made to their work-a-day world that not only enhances their performance, but makes them a happier employee.
