>> INTERGENERATIONAL COMMUNICATION IN THE WORKPLACE

In today’s workplace, there are five different generations of people working together.  Each of these generations holds a different view of the world.  Many of these differences are caused by world events that have shaped each generation’s place in history.   Through exploration of these events, it is possible to develop an understanding of why people react the way they do to any given situation.

Generations Explored:

  • Veteran/traditionalist
  • Baby Boomers
  • Generation X
  • Millennial (Y Generation, Echo Boom, Baby Busters)
  • Fifth Generation:  No consensus on name yet.

Largest “Generational” Challenges in the Workplace:

  • Beliefs are different.
  • Language use is different.
  • Reward systems are different.

What is an employer to do?

  • Learn the key traits that make each generation unique.
  • Learn which communication tools work best with each generation.
  • Learn the three keys to helping an employee feel significant.
  • Learn how to help an employee feel valued by using a reward system appropriate for each generation.

“Made me a really think about myself---had some “ahas” moments. Very Good.”

- Randy, Administrator – Public Utility Company

“We were about to move to a 10,000 sq. ft. store to a 20,000 sq.ft. store. I hired Kathy to work with our staff and determine who should go with us to our new venue. She identified a 22 year old young man already on our staff to be sales manager. She was so right. Today, our store is thriving and I am convinced that the realignment of our staff helped them to grow and provided us with a strong foundation to help our store flourish. We have brought Kathy for additional training since we moved—she keeps up-to-date on what the business world needs.”

- Gayle Beacock, Vice President Beacock Music Company  http:www.beacockmusic.com

ONE-ON-ONE COACHING

Often an organization spends all of its training money on the bottom 20 percent of its workforce. When in reality, it should “help” the bottom 20 percent employees graciously exit, and help them find a career that fits their personality/skills much more appropriately.

Performance coaching has been developed to help your employees become even better in their positions. Leaders, no matter how much we want to believe it, have a need for confidentiality and the ability to be stretched through learning new skills that have been proven to work.

“Kathy helped me remember who I really am. In today’s world, it is so easy to get caught up in one’s own weaknesses, but Kathy helped me rediscover my strengths showed me how to use those natural talents to become even better. Today, I am a better leader, friend, and spouse because of it.”

- Matt, Vice President of a Bank

SEMINIARS

Eric states:  “Managers often have the mistaken belief that they have to know more or be more skilled than the employees they coach.  Not necessarily so!  Olympic athletes each have a coach, yet I am confident that none of the coaches can out-perform athletes.”

Seminars to teach a number of one-on-one coaching skills can be tailored for your organization.

>> NETWORK TRAINING - Connecting with People

Networking is right up there with public speaking when it comes to the fear and terror it causes in a person’s mind when they know they have to go out networking.

Through the use of stories, demonstrations and humor I help break down the art of networking into steps that actually helps the person understand networking can and should be fun.

  • Networking defined.
  • Three keys to communicating with people.
  • Language Differences – Men and Women
  • Language Differences –  Between Generations
  • Develop your 30 second commercial.
  • Where do you find networking events?
  • How to read a newspaper so you find the events?
  • How do you prepare to go to a networking event?
  • What do you do when you walk into a room?
  • How do you start and maintain a conversation?
  • How do you break away?
  • How to you follow up?
  • How do you write notes?
  • Why do you need a contact program?

KEYNOTE SPEAKING – Frequently present at conferences and retreats.

“I was on Cloud 9 all of yesterday afternoon.  The training met all of my expectations. I was extremely happy to see our managers/leaders leave the training enthused and energized by your presentation. I’ve been thanked several times for bringing a highly skilled, highly qualified instructor to teach a much needed class. I had one manager send three note cards yesterday afternoon.”

- Sharon, Vice President of a Bank
